Founding faculty at the American University of Iraq, Baghdad, Amy Gilley has taught theater at a variety of institutions from a small liberal arts college. Her specialty is design in theater, but she has directed, written and produced both short plays and films.

She holds a MA in design from the University of Santa Barbara, where she also received her PHD in theater history. She also holds a second doctorate in architecture theory and history, which she received from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. This recent work focused on the work of the renowned American architect and poet, John Hejduk.
